Portsmouth - (Alice) June Dowd Daley, 92, died in Portsmouth on March 4, 2013.

June was born in Portsmouth, on June 5, 1920, the daughter of the late Alice G. (Fisher) Dowd Springer and Albert B. Dowd.

She had been a resident of Eliot, Maine, for several years and resided at Clipper Harbor of Portsmouth most recently.

June attended schools in Portsmouth and Newington and graduated from Portsmouth High School with the Class of 1938. She was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the planning, estimating and supply departments, retiring in 1973.

June was a proud member and past president of the Frank E. Booma Unit No. 6, American Legion Auxiliary; past district director of District 3, and past department president. In 2009, she led the procession into the hall for the opening ceremonies of the state convention in Lincoln. June was a past petit chapeau of Rockingham County Salon No. 264 Eight and Forty, a past departmental chapeau and a past eastern division demi-chapeau. She was a member of Oceanside Grange, the State Grange of New Hampshire and National Grange, a member of AFGE, AARP, as well as a member of the Emerson Hovey VFW Auxiliary No. 168, and Senior Friends.

June was the widow of Floyd J. Daley, who died in 1986. Floyd was a past state commander of New Hampshire American Legion as well as a national committeeman to the American Legion, which met at national headquarters in Indianapolis, Ind. Mrs. Daley and her late husband attended many national conventions of the American Legion throughout the United States.

June had visited all 50 states in the United States, Nova Scotia, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. She spent many winters in Florida on the Gulf Coast. June was an avid Red Sox fan, loved music and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Joyce E. Beeman of Auburn, Calif., Janice Y. Daley and Gail I. Dideriksen, both of Portsmouth; nine grandchildren, Laura Beeman, Wendy Slepian, Susan Beeman-Hollins, Kim Brackett, David Clough, Rodney Clough, Collin Clough, Deidre Stahl and Dennis Dideriksen Jr.; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois I. Smith of Portsmouth; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

June was predeceased by two brothers, James R. Dowd, who was a retired master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, and Wendell C. Springer, who had been a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force; a sister, Carolyn A. Springer; and her grandson, Rodney Clough.

Services: Visiting hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 8, at the funeral home.
