CONCORD - Margaret Ann Perry died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at the Bedford Falls assisted living facility in Bedford.

Margaret, the daughter of Kenneth Earl Perry and Carmencita Clough Perry, was born on June 17, 1935, in Keene. She grew up in Winchester, and was a graduate of Thayer High School, where she was the valedictorian of the class of 1953. She attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and received her B.A. in history in 1957. She subsequently received a M.A. in history from Michigan. She was employed for several years by the Educational Testing Service at the University of Michigan.

Margaret returned to New Hampshire in the early 1960s and became an employee of the New Hampshire State Library, where she directed the Bookmobile operation based in Keene. She later moved to Concord and worked as a reference librarian at the State Library. She worked for the State Library for nearly 46 years before retiring in May of 2010.

As a young piano student, Margaret would incorporate a visit to the local cinema after her lesson and in later years could recall many scenes and lines. She was a vigorous supporter of libraries and bookstores, an avid bibliophile and opera lover, and an enthusiastic sports fan particularly interested in the fortunes of the Michigan Wolverines, the Boston Red Sox, and favorite boxers such as Archie Moore and Sugar Ray Robinson. A Latinist, Catullus ranked high among her favorite poets.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents and an older sister, Mary Joyce Perry. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Salme Perry of Rollinsford; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces.

In the final years of her life, Margaret was greatly cheered by the good wishes and visits of her friends and former colleagues in the library community. In particular, Ann Salinger, a friend of 40 years, was a tireless advocate for Margaret and gave generously of her time and companionship.
