AMHERST - Marion G. Young, 88, longtime resident of Amherst, died on Dec. 27, 2012, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Goffstown.

She was born in Cambridge, Mass., on June 27, 1924, a daughter of Peter and Alice (Hayes) Macklin.

Marion graduated from Somerville (Mass.) High School, class of 1941, and Salem State College, class of 1945. She continued with graduate studies at Boston University and Rivier College.

Prior to her marriage in 1949, she taught high school in Ipswich, Mass., and Waltham, Mass. She moved to Amherst in 1949 and spent more than 30 years teaching business education at Milford Area Senior High School.

Mrs. Young was a member of Nashua Area Retired Educators and the Amherst Historical Society.

She enjoyed gardening, reading and most especially spending time with her family.

Mrs. Young was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church for 62 years and a member of the Catholic Women's Club.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald O. Young, who died in 1988.

Family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia A. and Steven Giguere of Goffstown, Jean C. and John Rotch of Milford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond A. and Leticia Young of San Diego, Calif., Paul A. and Anne Young of Exeter; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Jake Young of Amherst; many nieces and nephews.


services: Calling hours are on Sunday, Dec. 30, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm St., Milford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 34 Amherst St., Milford. Burial will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst, in the spring.
