WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Richard D. Audette of Williamsburg, formerly of Amherst, N.H., passed away on Dec. 8, 2013, at the age of 72.

Richard joined the Marines at 17, serving in the Vietnam War and at the Bay of Pigs in Cuba. He was a member of the police department for 40 years, serving as the police chief for 14 years in Bedford, N.H. During his retirement, Richard enjoyed working for the sheriff's department, serving on the marine patrol, and giving tours at Jamestown. He also enjoyed learning about the Civil War and participating in Civil War re-enactments.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Gretchen Audette; daughter, Anne Ingram; son-in-law, John Ingram; granddaughters, Katherine and Jessica Ingram; sister, Muriel Carpentino; one nephew and two nieces.
