Derry - Richard Earl MacGregor, 83, of Derry, passed away peacefully at Elliot Hospital on April 7, 2014.Richard was a lifelong resident of Derry, born April 13, 1930, and also wintered in Port Richey, Fla., for the past 20 years.He was the son of the late Herbert L. MacGregor and Sarah (Smart) MacGregor. He was also predeceased by brothers Robert, David and Arthur MacGregor, and a sister, Ruth Ward.He graduated from Pinkerton Academy in the Class of 1948. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a service manager and as a customer service engineer before retiring from TRW.Richard was very active in many community service organizations, including past president of the Derry Kiwanis Club, high priest of Masonic Lodge and member of the Lester W. Chase Post 9 of the American Legion. He was one of the founders of the Derry Village Club Scouts and also served on the Derry Charter Commission. He was proud of his heritage as the eighth generation descendent of the Rev. James MacGregor, the first settler of Derry.He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Wickens) MacGregor of Derry; he is also survived by his children, Bret MacGregor of Derry, Jill Flanders and her husband, John, of Weare, Scott MacGregor and his wife, Cherie, of Danbury; several grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
