ROCKLAND, Mass. - Richard L. Champagne, 82, formerly of Moultonborough, N.H., and Barefoot Bay, Fla., died peacefully Nov. 8, 2013, following a long period of declining health.

He was born Sept. 23, 1931, to the late Paul and Margaret Champagne in Waltham. He was a graduate of Boston University and a proud U.S. Marine who served in Korea. He was active with Marine Corps veterans organizations and an avid sportsman most of his life. He was predeceased by his wife, Audrey Crandall Champagne, who died in 2009; and his son, David A. Champagne, who died in 1987.
Family members include his beloved sister, Margaret Pauline "Polly" Donner of Houston; his children, Thomas Champagne and his husband, Steven Savage, of San Diego, and Jeanne Champagne and her husband, Robert Hibbard, of Hanover; stepdaughters, Claudia Staples and her husband, William, of Vero Beach, Fla., Linda Connell and her husband, David, of Manchester, N.H., Sandy Cutting and her husband, Alan, of Narragansett, R.I.; a stepson, David Crandall and his wife, Anne, of Enumclaw, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, Emma and Lily Hibbard, Caroline Cutting Schruth, Alexander Cutting, Mary Connell Stankus, Katherine Connell, Patrick Connell, Ellen Connell, Lauren Crandall and Janet Crandall; nieces, Julie Mills, Ellen" Missy" Puerta, Paula Donner; nephews Paul John and Christopher Donner, as well as several beloved cousins.
services: A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. in the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central St. (off Route 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center. Visiting hours prior to the service on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m. in Middle Neck Cemetery, Moltonborough, N.H.
