MANCHESTER - Richard W. Brooks, 86, of Manchester, passed away on July 21, 2013, at his Hollywood, Fla., residence.

Mr. Brooks was born March 30, 1927, in Manchester, a son of George and Catherine (Hromoda) Brooks and had been a lifelong resident of this community.

Mr. Brooks was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Prior to retirement, he was facility manager at Grenier Air Force Base for many years.

Mr. Brooks was an avid gardener with a keen sense of humor and was blessed with loving family and friends.

Family includes his wife of 63 years, Alice (Simard) Brooks; four children, Gail Brooks, Marlene Brooks, Jean Brooks and Richard Brooks; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Brooks and Kenneth Brooks; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.


services: Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cate & Johnson Funeral Home, 573 Pine St., corner of Harrison Street, in Manchester. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m. in Cate & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
