BEDFORD - Robert J. Cullen, 79, of Bedford, died January 15, 2014, after a period of declining health.

Born in Manchester, NH on May 22, 1934, he was the son of Joseph and May (Talford) Cullen.

He graduated from Bishop Bradley High School, Class of 1953.

During the Korean War, he served with the United States Navy.

In his early years, he was a bartender at the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Until his retirement, he was a manager at the New Hampshire State Liquor Store, in Bedford for thirty-two years.

He was a member of the American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post No.2 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 8214.

A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, his family was the center of his life. He enjoyed spending time in his flower garden. He was fond of his dogs. An avid New England sports fan, he especially enjoyed the Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.

Family members include his wife of thirty-two years, Marion (Roberts) (Brooks) Cullen of Bedford; three sons, Michael A. Cullen of Helena, MT, Kenneth J. Cullen and his wife, Michele, of Nashua, and Dennis P. Cullen and his wife, Marlyn, of Massanutten, VA; a stepson, George Brooks and his wife, Carolina, of Laconia; a stepdaughter, Tracey Brooks of Allenstown; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; a sister, Maura Pichette and her husband, Ronald, of Goffstown; several nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Calling hours are Sunday from 1 to 4PM at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, corner of Concord Street, Manchester, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Manchester Animal Shelter, 490 Dunbarton Road, Manchester, NH 03102.
