GROVETON - Stanley James "Joe" Emery, 91, of State Street, died peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Genesis Rehabilitation Center in Laconia, after a brief illness.

Joe was born on Nov. 14, 1921, in Groveton, a son of James L. and Margaret (McMahon) Emery and was a lifelong resident of Groveton. He was a graduate of Groveton High School, class of 1939. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
Before retiring Joe owned and operated JL Emery and Son Plumbing and Heating for several years; then worked for the State Fire Marshal's Office until retiring in 1986.
He is survived by his four children, Jeff Emery and wife Deborah of Wentworth, Ronny Emery and wife Donna of Grafton, Wis., Mark Emery and wife Judy of Boulder, Colo., and Rhonda Cardow and husband Gary of Seabrook; six grandchildren, Dana Bisson, Jeff Emery II, Bill Emery, Ashley Emery, Eric Emery and Kelly Emery; two great-grandchildren, Alec Bisson and Julia Bisson; one brother, Hollis Emery and wife Carolyn of Essex Junction, Vt.; one sister, Jane Durman and husband Vince of Meredith; his companion of 15 years, Pauline Marsh; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe was predeceased by his parents; his wife Marion Emery on May 11, 1997; one sister, Arlene Sanborn; and one brother-in-law; Dean Sanborn.
services: Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton, with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor, officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
