NEWPORT - William Philip "Bill" Hoyt, of Hoyt Lane and lifetime resident of Newport, passed away at the New London Hospital, Wednesday, July 23, 2014.

Bill was born on his grandparent's farm in Sunapee, June 27, 1928, the only child to the late Philip Watson and Doris (Sanborn) Hoyt. He grew up on the farm working and helping with chores, even though his parents had moved to Newport for his dad's health. Bill went to school in Newport graduating from Towle High School in the Class of 1946. He married Constance Bennett on April 23, 1949, and shared 39 years together until her passing on April 25, 1988. Bill entered the Air Force in 1952 and was stationed in New York. He owned and operated Hoyt Trucking from the time he was 15 years old and later Hoyt Enterprises. Bill was involved in the building of a new home for the Newport Food Pantry, named the Hoyt Community Care Center in his honor. His spare time involved antique cars and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He appeared in multiple parades throughout New England driving Leapin' Lena for the American Legion, which he also maintained for the past 51+ years. Bill was a self made man and earned all he had with hard work, frugal ways and a heart that cared for his fellow man.

He is survived by his daughter Beth L. Hoyt-Flewelling and her husband, Dana, of Sutton, his long time companion of over 26 years, Bunny Perry, of Newport, his grandson Aaron Flewelling.
