Nancy Cairo Obituary

ATKINSON - Nancy (Thornbury) Cairo, 95, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at Aurora Senior Living of Derry.Born in Man, W.Va., daughter of the late Joseph W. and Bertha (Hegner) Thornbury, she graduated from the local high school and worked as a newspaper reporter, most notably the Stamford Connecticut Advocate.

A resident of Hampstead from 1977 until moving to Atkinson in 2005, Mrs. Cairo was a former resident of Port Chester, N.Y., and Greenwich, Conn.An avid reader, she also enjoyed Scrabble and playing cards.She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Cairo, in 2004. She is survived by a daughter, Judith K. Cairo, of Atkinson, with whom she has made her home for the past 10 years; a son, James Von Hegner, of Derry; a grandson, Scott Thornbury, and two great grandsons, Nicholas Thornbury and Grant Thornbury.

SERVICES: Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. A service of remembrance will follow at 8:30 p.m. Burial will be in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery in Hampstead.Memorial donations may be to the Atkinson Elder Affairs Program.To send a message of condolence to the family, please visit www.brooksidechapelfh.com.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise found in 1 Thessalonians 4 : 14 can bring you some comfort. Knowing that there is a future for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
