Robert "Bob"
Deep, Sr.
VERONA
Robert "Bob" Deep, Sr., 75, of Rock Road, passed away on January 20, 2014, at Oneida Healthcare Center, after being stricken at home. Bob was born in Utica, NY, the son of the late John Deep, Sr., and Rose Mody Deep, and was a life-long resident of the Verona area. Bob attended Utica Free Academy and joined the United States Air Force in 1959. When he returned home, he married the late Caroline Moorehead Deep on May 12, 1962. Mrs. Deep died on October 16, 1992. Bob worked most of his adult life at Oneida Silversmiths, primarily in the Holloware Department as a buffer, and retired after 31 years of dedicated service. He was a lifetime member of the Verona Fire Department. He also served as a Fire Commissioner and retired in 2013 after 35 years in that position. You may remember seeing Bob at the Wheel at the Verona Fireman's Field Days smiling as he accepted your "donations" to the yearly fundraiser. Bob was member of the New London Masonic Lodge #420 F & AM, where he also was Past Master and a member of Ziyara Temple Shrine. Bob was passionate about woodworking and golf. He spent many of his retirement years on a golf course, including working at the Pleasant Knolls. Those loves only came after the love for his family. "Pa" loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with the kind of love that leaves a mark and legacy. He set the standard for us all to follow and we will. Surviving are his son, Richard Deep, of Verona; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Deep, of Vernon Center; two brothers, John Deep, Jr., of Schuyler, and David Deep, Sr. (Joanne), of Sauquoit; sister, Patty Madore, of Ilion; two grandsons, Robert Deep, III (Kristen), of Vernon Center, and Michael Deep, of Vernon Center; two great-grandchildren, Macie and Matthew Deep; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his girlfriend of nearly 8 years, Hermine Kinne, of Verona. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his son, Robert Deep, Jr., December 6, 2011. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida. Interment will be made in the Verona Cemetery. Friends may call 3 to 7 PM, Friday, at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Verona Fire Department, Volunteer Avenue, Verona, NY 13478. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home. Friends and family are welcome to come celebrate Bob's life at the Verona VFW, Post #6811, immediately following graveside services. Our condolences and heartfelt sympathy. Bob was a great neighbor to us on Rock Road and a long time friend. Almost every time we saw him he reminded us that he used to buy small stones from our son Brad. We'll miss seeing the family as we are still in Florida. In Sympathy, Howie and Patty Allen
