DONALD HAROLD BAYES 8/12/1933-8/25/2014 Donald Harold Bayes, of Apple Valley, passed away on Aug. 25, 2014 at the age of 81 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on Aug. 12, 1933 in Torrance, California. He lived many years in the 29 Palms area where he graduated from high school. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. He spent 1 year in Thule Greenland. After his discharge, he was employed by P.T. & T, Mt. Bell in Colorado and retired from A.T. & T. After retirement, he went to work for FEMA as a Disaster Assistance Employee. Don traveled all over the United States and the Pacific Islands wherever a disaster occurred. His most memorable one was when he was in New York City after the 9-11 Twin Towers terrorist attack. He was preceded in death by his son, Jon Bayes. He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Elaine Bayes. Sons Raymond, Ronald, and William Bayes; daughter-in-law Maria Bayes; grandsons Nicolas and Justin Bayes, and great grandson Jacob Bayes. Sisters Ellie Miller, and Mildred Nielson; nephew Donald Miller; sister-in-law Carol Cass and niece Liz Cass, and numerous other relatives. He enjoyed buying and restoring old cars, exploring the desert and collecting insulators. Don had a big heart and was always willing to help his sons, family and friends as best he could. He will be missed by all. Rest in peace, big guy, your suffering is over. We love you.
