DAVID FATE LUCUS 12/19/1925-12/29/2013 Long-time Escondido resident David Fate Lucus passed away from natural causes on December 29, 2013 at the home of his family in San Marcos, California. He was 88 years old. Born in Clovis, New Mexico on December 19, 1925, Dave proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943-1945. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 12 and worked for numerous contractors throughout southern California including Baxter Drilling & Blasting for over 40 years. Before retiring, he owned Spirit Drilling & Blasting with his sons. Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Rae Lucus in 2003 and is survived by their daughter, Lavelle "Lea" Jackson of San Marcos, California; and sons Scott Lucus of Montana, and Randy Lucus of Apple Valley, California. Affectionately known as their beloved "Gump," Dave also leaves behind grandchildren David Cliff, Craig Cliff, Cindy Cliff- DeGraffenreid, Shauna Zoul, Lydia Lucus-Streitzel, Michael Lucus, Wes Lucus, and Brittany Brennan, in addition to 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be held on January 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Road in Escondido, California.
