JOSEPH KARR 5/18/1932 - 12/20/2013 Joseph M. Karr of Hesperia passed away on December 20, 2013 at the age of 81. Joseph was born in Indiana. His family moved to the Inland Empire when he was 6 years old. Joseph was a 28 year veteran of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, retiring in 1987 at the rank of Deputy Chief. He served as the Commander of the Barstow Substation and Desert Mountain stations, since 1973; has an extensive law enforcement background, having served in numerous assignments throughout the county since his original appointment as a Deputy Sheriff in March of 1959. Deputy Chief Karr has attended San Bernardino Valley College, the University of California at Los Angeles, the University of Virginia and is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years Pauline (also known as Vicky), son David, and his grandchildren. We honor Joseph's long life and cherish the many wonderful memories we had with this kind and gentle man. At the request of the family, services will be private.
