PAUL MARSH JR., COL (RET), USAF 5/2/1937 - 8/30/2013 Paul Marsh Jr., Col (Ret), USAF, beloved husband of Marylyn Metz Marsh for 55 years, loving father to Kim Marsh Nowak and Tracy Marsh NeJame (George), and devoted grandfather to Branson NeJame, Raleigh NeJame and Hunter Nowak, took his last solo and flight on August 30, 2013. He is also survived by his brother Robert C. Marsh (Mary) and nephew Rob Marsh (Angela) and nieces and nephews. Paul (nicknamed Peppy) was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 2, 1937, attended Jefferson High School then Tulane University in New Orleans and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation in 1959. He began his 30 year military career as a navigator on the B-52, and upon graduation from pilot training became a fighter pilot on the F-4 with assignments in Bentwaters, England, DaNang, Vietnam, George AFB, CA (flight instructor/squadron commander), Langley AFB, VA, Seymour Johnson AFB, NC (Deputy Commander for Operations), Shaw AFB, SC (Vice-Wing Commander for O-2), and Seoul, Korea as Chief of Staff for Joint United States Military Assistance Group. Paul's military awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medals, Air Force Commendation Medals, Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation, and others. Upon his retirement as a Colonel in the United States Air Force, Paul became a Senior Engineer on the B-2 (stealth bomber) at Northrop. This second career was cut short when he was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, however, Paul was fortunate to receive a lung transplant in May 2008 (a date he celebrated annually). This selfless gift gave him an additional 5 years with his beloved family and friends. He always referred to his donor as his California Angel. Paul was a humble and generous man who loved his family, country and friends - near and far. He was a lifelong fan of Elvis, rock and roll music, dancing, motorcycles, and automobiles. His passion for vehicles, his boat "Cajun Po Boy", and baseball (New York Yankees) continued throughout his life. Services are scheduled for Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Sunset Hills Memorial Park, 24000 Waalew Road, Apple Valley, CA 92307 with visitation at 5p.m., followed by a sunset Memorial Service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Paul's name can be made to the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis at www.coalitionforpf.org or the Wounded Warrior Project at www.wounded warriorproject.org.
