ROBERT LEROY PRESTON 8/25/1936 - 9/16/2013 Bob passed away unexpectedly on September 16, 2013. He was born and raised in Riverside the first son to C.W. "Bill" and Doris Preston. He attended school in Riverside at Lincoln Elementary, Central Jr. High and Riverside Poly High. He was a member of the 60th reunion committee and other reunions in between for Riverside Poly High's class of 1954. Bob and his family moved to Apple Valley in 1971. He worked as a licensed mortician at the family's mortuary in Riverside, and then as a salesman for Young's Market Company for 31 years. After his retirement, he went back to work part-time as a driver for Enterprise Rent-a-Car and a funeral director for Sunset Hills & Victor Valley Memorial Park & Mortuary. Bob had a genuine interest in people and had a joke for every occasion. He was very loving and so proud to be a family man. His life was his family. He is survived by his wife and best friend Cindy with whom he celebrated 49 wonderful years in June. They were married on June 19, 1964 at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Riverside. He is also survived by his two daughters, Lori of San Diego and Kristin and her husband Stephen of Rockwall, TX; three grandchildren Alexander Preston-Kangas, and Katie and Branden Erickson; and nephew Jeff. Predeceased by son William Preston and brother Ronald Preston. Bob enjoyed camping with his wife and belonged to several camping/RV groups. His favorite location was Pismo Beach; his most recent trip was to celebrate his 77th birthday in August. He loved New Orleans' jazz music and was the site captain for the Jubilee Jazz Festival in Pismo Beach. He grew up playing golf with a handicap of 2 and was a member of Victoria Country Club in Riverside and Apple Valley Country Club. Golf was something at which Bob, his mother, father, and brother all excelled. He was forced to retire from the game after a shoulder injury. He also enjoyed going to the gym, fishing, watching sports, meeting friends for coffee, and more recently he took an interest in water aerobics. The family will have a memorial service with reception immediately following for family and friends on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM at The Church of the Valley, 20700 Standing Rock Rd, Apple Valley.
