DENVER, CO. -
Alberto V. Martinez, 98, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior April 3, 2014.
He was born May 12, 1915 in Harlingen, TX to Agustine and Dorotea V. Martinez. He attended and graduated from Harlingen High School Class of 1936, after graduating from high school he joined the CCC Civilian Conservation Corp. He proudly served his country in the United States Army having gone to battle in WWII earning Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon with 2 Overseas Service Bars. Alberto was honorably discharged.
Alberto was a hardworking family man; he devoted his life to his two daughters and his church, the Second Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and treasurer for many years. He had a strong faith in God; he often prayed for his family, he was a prayer warrior. He owned his own business "Albert's Grocery and Meat Market" and in the later years worked at Andy's Model Market; eventually he retired from Calzadas Grocery Store.
He leaves behind to cherish his wonderful memory his Daughters, Omega (Joe) Perez and Bertha (Juan) Serrata both of Denver, CO; his grandchildren, Dyna (John) Meade, Joe Perez Jr., Deanne (Kyle) Sylvester, Jeremy (Amy) Serrata, and Mark (Phoebe) Serrata, eight great-grandchildren, Zachary, Joseph and Seth Meade, Ash and Autumn Sylvester, Samuel and Nicolette Serrata and Oliver Serrata. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held today from 12 noon to 9:00 PM with prayer service at 7:00 PM tonight.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday April 11, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Second Presbyterian Church located on 901 W. Lincoln St. Harlingen. Interment will follow to Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Honored to be his pallbearers are Joe Perez Jr., Jeremy Serrata, Mark Serrata, Zachary Meade, John Meade and Juan Serrata.
