HARLINGEN, TX. - Marvin Henry Payton Sr., age 94, died peacefully at home, on Sunday, September 22, 2013, just 4 days after his loving wife Thelma preceded him in death.
Marvin was born on November 18, 1918 to Daniel and Nora Payton in Electra, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Bill (Mary), Arthur (Norma) and Clarence (Fanny) and Daniel, and one grandchild, Rusty Payton.
Survivors include his children, Marvin H. Payton Jr. (Yvonne), Daniel E. Payton Sr. (Kathy), and Nora H. Reynolds (Fred). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Marvin was loved and cherished by all including his church family, winter Texan friends, friends from the Elks Lodge and the American Legion in La Feria for over 35 years, as well as countless others.
Marvin served during World War II with the Navy as an Aviation/Electrician's Mate First Class E6. He worked for Hygeia Dairy Company, Federal Petroleum, and Lone Star Propane.
Viewing and a Celebration of Marvin's life will be Wednesday, Sept 25, 2013, at the First Christian Church, 421 S. 13th, Harlingen. Family will receive guests beginning at 5:00 p.m. with funeral services at 6:00 p.m.
Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 205 and VFW Post 2410.
There will be a private entombment with family at a later date.
