December 14, 1931 - May 31, 2014
On May 31, 2014 on a beautiful sunny day, A.T. passed away at Lions Gate Hospital. He was 82 years old and lived a full and happy life. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Idena and his 5 children, Michael (Carol), Robert (Nancy), Shane, Kelly (James) and Shauna (Kevin). Grandchildren, Mick, Colleen, Tamara, Shawn, Colleen, Katie, Riley, Grady, Jesse, Luke, Emily, Spencer, Hayley, guardian angel Conner Joseph and great-grandchild, Leif. Dad will be remembered for his incredibly quick wit, his kindness and the love he had for his family. Family gatherings at the family home on 14th Street meant the world to him. He also loved a good party and Idena and Al hosted some great parties to celebrate St. Paddy's day and New Year's Eve over the years. Mom and Dad were always together. They loved their trips to Vegas and more recently they loved zipping up to the Valley to Safeway and the mall where Dad would indulge his passion for "scratch and lose" tickets. A.T. was a wonderful father, full of love and support for all of his children and grandchildren. Dad spent many, many hours at the playground at Loutet Park pushing kids on the swings while tossing a ball for Georgie and Maxie. As the grandchildren grew, Mom and Dad spent countless hours watching them participate in hockey, lacrosse, baseball, ringette, Volleyball, basketball, and many other activities. Dad worked at The Vancouver Sun for 38 years. He enjoyed his time there and mentored many young reporters. He made lifelong friendships at the paper that he cherished and he really enjoyed being part of "the old farts club" who met for reunion lunches. An old-school newspaperman, Dad would have been humbled that news of his passing had been "Tweeted" and he would have been very happy to read all the kind words by his peers. The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support during this time of grief and reflection. The Service Celebrating His Life will be held at Seymour Golf and Country Club on Monday, June 16, 2014 from 1-3 p.m. In honour of the amazing care Dad received from LGH, donations can be made to the LGH Foundation in memory of Allan Sheehan or the Heart and Stroke foundation.
Thanks for the memories
