Doreen Alma (nee Kennett) Bergerman December 28, 1923 - March 7, 2014 Doreen, known to one and all as Dody passed away in Surrey at the age of 90. Doreen was predeceased by mother Molly and stepfather Harold Thorne. Also predeceased by her husband Leo, son Stephen, and her son-in-law, Shakey. Doreen is survived by her children Mike (Karen), Marlene, Louis (Jayne), Roy (Nora), Lorraine, Mark (Dawn), Leona (Mike), and Don (Luanne), as well as 25 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Mom is also survived by her loving niece Nancy Brown, nephews Bill, John and Don Millier and their families.

Born in Vancouver where she spent most of her life, Dody spoke often of growing up as a teenager through the Depression, and the impact on her life of World War II.

Dody served in the Canadian Army during the War, and met the love of her life during those trying but exciting times. Far from being defeated by these great trials of the past century, Dody focused on the positive lessons that allowed her to see the opportunities available for women in the workforce. She instilled those life lessons in all her children; that we could be, and do, whatever we wanted in life.

Married in 1947, Leo and Dody moved to Richmond where they raised their 9 children on a small but productive farm. Oh, how we remember weeding MILES of vegetables and feeding a barnyard full of chickens!

Dody had the opportunity to visit her children in their far-flung postings around the country, and was able to visit all three oceans that surround us. Having lived through the tough times, she was boundlessly optimistic about life and the good times she shared with her friends and family.

We would like to thank the staff at Hilton Villa Care Centre for their wonderful care of our mother during the past decade. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hilton Villa Care Centre or the Alzheimer Foundation of BC would be greatly appreciated.

Prayers will be held on Wednesday, March 12, at 8 pm at St. Joseph's Church, 20676 Fraser Hwy, Langley BC V3A 4G5. A mass of Christian burial in celebration of Dody's life will be held March 13th at 11:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, followed by a reception. Interment will be at the Gardens of Gethsemane, Surrey, BC.
