McFADDEN, Douglas Stanley
January 24, 1920 – August 9, 2014
Papa has died and we are heartbroken. Doug passed away peacefully on August 9, 2014. Those left to wear the tartan are Joan, his loving wife of 70 years; sons, Douglas (Dawne), Bob (Anne); daughter, Jan (Bob); cherished grandchildren, Debbie (Shawn), Shelly (Paul), Tera (Neil), Glenn, Kate (Tommy), Bradley (Anna), Lauren (Lyhle), and Amanda (Aaron); and five great- grandchildren. Papa was born in Ladysmith in 1920, the fifth of 10 children, and lived in Nanaimo and Blakeburn as a child. As a young man, he served in the Canadian Army during WWII. During that time, he met Joan (Sharman) who he married in 1943. After the war, they lived in West Vancouver until 1958. He then returned to the Island with his family and they settled in Nanaimo. He was an honorary member of the Nanaimo Rotary Club, a member of the Nanaimo K40 and the United Services Institute of Nanaimo. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Nanaimo Seniors Village for their excellent care and support during the past month. A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at 1:30 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #257 in Lantzville, B.C.
