Eugene Gatien Montpellier July 1918- Feb 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gene Montpellier. Gene was survived by his daughter Marie, Son in law John, Grandchildren Danielle, Brina (Josh), Tyler, Troy and Great Grand Daughter Naeveh. He was Predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Shirley and Son Raymond.

Gene was raised in Westlock Alberta, with older brother Alfred and younger sister Irene.He joined the air force during the war and was stationed in England repairing planes. After the war he earned a teaching degree and married his sweetheart Shirley. They moved to Winlaw BC and taught together in a 2 room school house and lived in the attached residence. Gene taught the intermediate grades and Shirley taught primary. In 1956 they moved to Port Moody, so Gene could start work as principal of Park land school, he changed after many years to principal of Glen Ayre School. Gene was a very talented pool player, he played for over 75 years, He enjoyed playing pool with his friends and family. He played his last game of pool only months before his passing and was still able to win. He also played saxophone for many years and played in a band (The Red Jackets) with his brother Al. His love of Jazz music stayed with him his entire life. He was also an avid fisherman and fished for Rainbow trout during his summers at green lake and salmon in the fall with Shirley by Campbell River. He was a true blue hockey fan and coached his sons hockey team, Gene was a very giving person and also contributed to many charities. We wish to thank the Eagle Ridge hospital staff for their care and compassion during the last months of his life. A private memorial may be held some time in the future.
