JENKINS With great sadness we announce that on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, our Alan passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at The Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre. At the age of 16, Alan joined the merchant marines and sailed around the world. He served in the Royal Navy from 1942 until 1946, participating in the North African campaign. His war time travels took him to Oran, Algiers, Malta and Ceylon.

After the war, Alan worked for Cadbury Chocolate in Bournville, UK before moving to Canada in 1956. In Vancouver, Alan worked for General Motors Canada until his retirement in 1987.
Alan loved to travel, and spoke a number of languages which he continued to exercise until his death. He always engaged family and friends with entertaining stories from his travels.
He is survived by his beloved wife Maria Verbena Donati of 27 years, his son Trevor, and step-children Ileana (Peter), Genni (Frank), Leo (Carol) and step-grandchildren Lloyd, Cyan (Kyle), and Coco. He is also survived by his brothers Hugh and Ian and his sister Bronwen and families.
Alan is predeceased by his first wife Edna, his brother Desmond and sister Joan. At his request, Alan will be returned to Vancouver and a memorial service will be held in the Spring for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Society or the Canadian Lung Association.
