John Slivorski 1927 - 2013 John passed away peacefully on December 16, 2013 at Vancouver BC. John was raised on the family farm on Cambie Road in Richmond where he learned his values of hard work and humility - always taking greater pleasure in his family's successes rather than his own. John was the youngest of the 3 children. He attended Mitchell Elementary while working on the farm and helping his father at the shingle mill in Marpole. At the age of 15 he went to sea working the merchant ships servicing the BC coastal waters and then joined the Canadian Merchant Navy to serve during the WWII. John became the youngest Chief Engineer in the Merchant Marines. On Valentine's Day, 1950, John met Mary, a few months later they were married. The family grew with the arrival of Veronica, David and Elaine. John worked for Armature Electric before starting up A&E Tools. In retirement, John enjoyed keeping an eye on the ships in English Bay while tending his feathered friends. John was survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary, David (Carol), Elaine (Jack), three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his daughter Veronica (Arne) and his sisters (Christina and Anne). Dad you will be dearly missed. There will be no services. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
