KUZMINSKI, Leonard Maynard
Our dear husband, father, brother and friend, Len Kuzminski, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2013, one month after his 69th birthday. Born and raised in the little Saskatchewan town of Preeceville, Len graduated from University of Saskatchewan where he had joined the Canadian Navy Reserve as a U.N.T.D. officer cadet. He made lasting friendships with navy buddies and postings to the west coast in the mid 60s persuaded him to move here permanently. In 1972, Len graduated from law school at U.B.C. and was called to the B.C. Bar. He practiced law continuously since that time, mainly serving clients in the city of Abbotsford, particularly enjoying his years with Kuzminski and Haraldsen, and most recently with Linley Welwood. He involved himself with the community through membership in the Abbotsford Flying Club and the Abbotsford Rotary Club, and served on the community board of the Salvation Army. Len was a passionately dedicated family man and his immediate family, wife Melanie, daughter Leanne, son Matthew, daughter-in-law Heike, and grandsons Felix and Henry, miss him terribly. His sisters, Charlotte Krakowski and Ruth Kuzminski and their families mourn Len's passing, as do sisters-in-law Valerie Hodgson, and Virginia Gibberd and their spouses and families. Friends, including Hilary, Colin and Craig Mathews, Margaret and Patrick Ronse, and Ken and Connie Thom, and many other friends, clients and colleagues were very special to Len, who was grateful for their encouragement and support as he struggled these last two years with cancer. As a doctor who treated Len put it: "He was always unfailingly calm and positive, often in the face of very distressing circumstances." Our family is thankful for the kind and highly skilled care that Len received throughout his illness from the wonderful staff at the Fraser Valley Cancer Centre, the Cancer Agency's Vancouver centre, Burnaby Hospital and Peace Arch Hospital. We must particularly thank Dr. Jesse Shustik for everything he did for Len. A Celebration of Len's Life will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2 - 5 p.m.. at the Abbotsford Flying Club, 30540 Approach Dr., Abbotsford. Len's favourite charities included the Rotary International Foundation and the Salvation Army.
