CORBETT, Leslie Allister
Born March 30, 1924 in Burnaby, BC, sadly passed away peacefully in New Westminster at the Royal Columbian Hospital on March 22, 2014. Les was predeceased by his wife Elaine, his parents Arthur and Grace Corbett and his brothers, the twins, Bill and Ed. He is survived by his brother Lorne, and his sons Paul (Lois) of Surrey, Colin (Shawyn) of Surrey, granddaughters Gillian (Tavish Duffy), Caitlin (Darren Jones), great-grandson Myles, and Hayley (John Allan), Dean (Glenda) of Bridesville, BC and grandsons Fraser, Marshall (Amanda), David (Erin) and Johnny (Michelle). Les grew up in the Edmonds area of Burnaby. At age 18 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he trained to be a flight navigator. He served with the RAF during WWII in England flying many missions over Europe. He was honored with the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions during one of their assignments. Les returned to Burnaby and married Elaine Pappas on March 22, 1945. He attended UBC and graduated with his BASc in 1950. Les and Elaine raised their three sons in the Panorama Ridge area of Surrey. They were very active members of the community. Les spent most of his working career with Fraser River Pile Driving of New Westminster. After retiring in 1980, he spent his time working on his home and yard, helping his sons with their homes as well as finding time to play golf both locally and in Maui. Since 2006, Les has lived in the Edmonds area and more recently in New Westminster where he was able to monitor the activities along the Fraser River. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Royal Columbian Hospital for their compassion and care in his last days. A Celebration of Les' Life will be held March 30, 2014, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hyack Ballroom, Inn at the Quay, 900 Quayside Drive, New Westminster. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
