Pedro Ortiz Alvarez Obituary
Pedro Ortiz Alvarez Pedro (Pete) Alvarez was born into a hard working family in Watts, CA on April 19, 1925. The Ortiz Alvarez family moved to Pixley, CA to pursue work in the agricultural industry. Pete spent many of his years toiling as a farm worker picking crops throughout the west coast. During WWII he was moved by a call of duty to serve his country by enlisting in the Navy. After several years of serving, he continued to pursue work as a migrant farm worker up and down California. While living in Salinas, Pete was connected with Lidia Cabrera, a beautiful young woman living in Mexico. After spending a year conversing through handwritten letters, he proposed to her. Pete & Lidia were soon united in marriage. Their marriage lasted the test of time - 65 years together. Pete & Lidia soon gave birth to Joe Abel Alvarez in 1964. Pete spent much of his life working in his own business; selling sewing goods in the valley as well as serving the Lord through healing & prayer. Although living humble lives in the United States, he & his wife gained support through his hard work in raising over $20,000 to help build the San Tranqilino Ubiarco Catholic Church in Mexico. Pete valued his relationship with the Lord as well as his relationship with his family, grandchildren & great grandchildren as his greatest priorities.
