Tommy D. Singleton, 70, of Waco, passed away on March 4, 2013, at his home surrounded by family. The Singleton family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home in De Leon, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 7, at 2 p.m. in Nowlin Anders Chapel. Jackie Auvenshine will officiate. Burial will follow in the De Leon Cemetery.

Tommy was born on Oct. 10, 1942, in Gorman, Texas, to Roy Vernon "R.V." and Mabel Robinett Singleton. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1969. Tommy married Peggy Glasson on June 28, 1969, in De Leon. Tommy and Peggy moved to Waco in 1970.

He graduated from Howard Payne University with a Bachelor of Science. He earned his Master of Education from Baylor University and worked on his Doctoral studies at Texas A&M University. Tommy was a lifelong educator who dedicated much of his 25 year career to helping children with special needs. He was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco. Tommy loved to read, watch movies, hunt, fish, and spend time with family.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Peggy Glasson Singleton; daughter, Jana Martin and husband, John; sister, Karen Speck; brother-in-law, Cletis Glasson and wife, Terry; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, R.V. and Mabel Singleton.

Pallbearers will be Clinton Glasson, Glen Hodge, Jeff Hodge, Alan Robinett, Larry Singleton and Mickey Robinett. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Robinett, Dewitt Robinett, Jackie Robinett and Gary Singleton.

Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation at 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 or to the De Leon High School Class of 1960 Scholarship Fund at 740 South Texas Street, De Leon, Texas 76444, in memory of Tommy.
