WC Johnson, 80, of McGregor, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at McGregor Cemetery.

WC was born on June 13, 1932, in Coryell County, to Paul "Bud" and Gladyce Johnson. In 1954, he joined the U.S. Army as a radar expert serving during the Korean War. He served in many parts of the world and was honorably discharged in 1956.

WC was a firefighter for the Lubbock Fire Department. He went to work in October of 1957 and retired after 25 years in January of 1983. After retirement, he and Faye moved to McGregor for two years before moving again to Austin for the next 20 years. They moved back to McGregor in October of 2004. He was home at last.

He started playing dominoes at the American Legion Hall #273 and continued playing regularly with many of friends from McGregor. He clearly enjoyed the companionship and, of course, winning the games.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; two brothers, Paul Jr. and Ralin; and a grandson, Brandon Jonah Rath.

WC is survived by his wife of 55 years, Faye; three daughters, Alathia Babits, Gladys Rath and Zanas Johnson; four grandchildren, Chandler Gill, Britani Rath, Chanler and Gloria Wailes; and two great grandsons, Drake and Jamison Hansen.
