John J. Connolly, 94, of Marlborough and formerly of West Newton and Onset died Saturday July 12, 2014 at Emerson Hospital in Concord after a short illness. He was the husband for 64 years of the late Dorothy E. (Gallagher) Connolly who died in 2007. He was born, raised and educated in Waltham the son of the late James and ANNIE m. (Connolly). Mr. Connolly and was a graduate of St. Marys High School Class of 1937 and in 1941 graduated from Burdett College. John was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Coast Guard from 1942-1945 and in the United States Navy. After an honorable discharge he was a supervisor for Union News Company for 13 years. In 1956, John joined the Sales Department of Mass. Hardware & Supply Co. in Waltham where he worked for 26 years retiring in 1982. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 220 and former member of the Waltham Twirlers, a square dancing group. He was a avid and at about the age of 90, he learned to play pool with a group of men at New Horizons. John was brave, loyal, stalwart, protective and truly a member of the greatest generation. He leaves four sons, Peter J. Connolly and his wife, Maria of Chelsea, Paul J. Connolly of Boxborough, John J. Connolly, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Littleton and Thomas G. Connolly of Falmouth; four daughters, Sheila M. Noah and her husband, Bruce of Maynard, Ann M. Tom of Honolulu, Hawaii, Claire P. McNamara of Maynard and Marian J. Jarosz and her husband, John of Seattle; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a dear and devoted fri Janet Baker-Carr of Sudbury. He was pre-deceased by four siblings, James and Joseph Connolly, Mary Boyce and John Fayne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday July 16 at 10:30 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Chapel at New Horizons, 400 Hemenway Street, Marlborough. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. A time of visitation will be held Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. in the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to the Sisters of the Good Shepherd Retirement Fund, 406 Hemenway Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.
