Dorothy L. Martenson, 96, formerly of Waltham, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2013, at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, VT. Born on December 27, 1916 in Watertown, she was the daughter of Sarah Elizabeth (Aiken) Bickford. She graduated from Watertown High School and went on to attend a secretarial school for bookkeeping in Boston. Dorothy married Carl E. Martenson on November 23, 1938. They made their home in Waltham, Framingham, and Wareham, MA. He died on March 4, 1972. Dorothy was a bookkeeper for a commercial construction company in Waltham until her retirement. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Waltham where she had served as the secretary. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Lee Martenson and his wife, Marjory of Orange, VT; her daughter, Joanne Woolf and her husband, Leonard of Lake Orion, MI; six grandchildren, Peter T. Martenson and his wife, Anne, Ruth K. Silva and her husband, Carlos, Matthew Woolf, Kristi Partridge and her husband, Evan, Carl P. Martenson and Eric R. Miles and his wife, Jessica; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Abbott of Waitsfield, VT; nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband; her grandson, Carl Daniel Martenson; a brother, Gardner Bickford; and a sister, Beverly Jean Manning predeceased her. A memorial service will be held later. There are no calling hours. Interment will be in the Newton Cemetery in Newton, MA.
