Charles Leo Hemmelgarn Sr., 68, Wright City, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014, at his home.

He was born Aug. 11, 1945, in Dark County, Ohio, the son of Raymond H. Hemmelgarn Sr. and wife Evelyn K. Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was employed in ramp service and was a member of Amvets Post 106, St. Peters, Elks Lodge 2587, O'Fallon, and the American Legion Post 122, Warrenton.

Charles is survived by his wife, Wanda Lee Hemmelgarn, nee Schneider, Wright City; three sons, Charles Hemmelgarn Jr., Christopher Hemmelgarn and wife Heather, all of St. Louis, and Chad Hemmelgarn, Wright City; one daughter, Kelly Hemmelgarn and Paul Walterman, Wright City; two brothers, Ray Hemmelgarn Jr., Florida state, and Gary Hemmelgarn, Versailles, Ohio; three sisters, Kay Groff and husband Ron, North Star, Ohio, Joyce Knapke and husband Richard, New Westin, Ohio, and Linda Gudermuth, Hawk Point; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Evelyn Hemmelgarn Sr.; and one brother, Edward Hemmelgarn.

Visitation was held Wednesday, April 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Pitman Funeral Home, Wentzville.

A funeral service followed at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment was private.

Memorials to the , in care of Pitman Funeral Home, 1545 Wentzville Parkway, P.O. Box 248, Wentzville, MO 63385 are preferred.
