Elvin Leroy Scott, 90, Warrenton, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Jonesburg Nursing and Rehab Center, Jonesburg.
Elvin was born to Clarence Scott and wife Ruth, nee Huffman, Dec. 10, 1923, in Franklin County. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Vera Alma Amanda Diederich, June 28, 1947.
Elvin proudly served his country during World War II and was awarded four Bronze Stars for combat for each of the following campaigns: Normandy, Rhineland, North France and Central Europe. When he returned from the war, Elvin continued to serve as an elder, usher and active voter, and performed property maintenance at both Zion Lutheran Church, Ferguson, and St. John's Lutheran Church, Warrenton. He was a retired carpenter after working 25 years for McBride and Sons, St. Louis.
Elvin is survived by his loving daughter, Sharon Brackney; two grandchildren, Joe Brackney and Jason Brackney; one granddaughter-in-law, Beth Brackney; four great-grandchildren, Jesse, Madeline, Caitlin and Colin; many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Wednesday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to noon at St. John's Lutheran Church, Warrenton.
A funeral service followed at noon at the church.
Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, New Melle.
