ANN W. DERRICOTTE
Departed this life, in her home, on January 31, 2014. She was a former Kindergarten School Teacher
and Early Childhood Education Specialist for the District of Columbia, for over three decades.
Highlights of her career include a classroom visitation in 1981 by then Vice President George Bush, Sr.'s wife, Barbara Bush at Webb Elementary School. During that visit Ann demonstrated the "Right-to-Read" Program which was developed at Catholic University. At which time, 100% of her students demonstrated their ability to read at ages four and five.
In the late 70's, her class at Webb Elementary School, was filmed as a model of the best practices in Early Childhood Education. It was broadcasted multiple times on WDCA-TV Channel 20.
She is survived by her son, David S. Derricotte of Silver Srping, MD; daughter, Laura Derricotte Contee of Pikesville, MD; grandchildren, Robyn Ann Merchant of Silver Spring, MD, Rachel N. Contee of Pikesville, MD and Sgt. Bryan E. Contee of the US Army, Pikesville, MD; great-grandchildren and a niece, Lisa Ann Nance of New York. Also survived by a host of devoted cousins, nieces, close friends and goddaughters, Lorraine J. Smith of Washington, DC and Niccola Piscatelli of Florida.
Family will receive friends on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 11 a.m. until time of service 12 Noon at McGuire Funeral Home, 7400 Georgia Avenue, NW. Interment Lincoln Cemetery.
