On June 15, 2013, in Fairfax, Virginia, Mr. Barnett (Barney) Klehman, passed away at age 62. A graduate of Vanderbilt University and Pepperdine University, Mr. Klehman began his government career in 1972 as a contract price analyst with the Defense Contact Administration. In 1978, he transferred to the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Organization where he spent 24 years. In October 2004, Mr. Klehman joined the esteemed Senior Executive Service and became the Director of Contracts at the Missile Defense Agency. By December 2012, Mr. Klehman had assumed the responsibility for all contracting and acquisition for MDA as the Director for Acquisition, a position he held until his death. An avid sports enthusiast, Mr. Klehman enjoyed engaging friends and colleagues alike in lively discussions on professional and college sports. A self-professed food connoisseur, Mr. Klehman seldom passed up an opportunity to meet his co-workers for dinner or an evening listening to jazz music. Barney, as he was affectionately called by his close circle of intimate friends, is best remembered for his selfless dedication and commitment to the acquisition and contracting workforce. He was a passionate mentor and friend to many throughout his career. His quiet kindness and unassuming presence will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate to know Barney. Preceded in death by his father Joseph and mother Ruth, Mr. Klehman is survived by his cousins Dr. Howard Z. Davis and Mr. Ethan Davis, Ms. Betsey Pinkert, Ms. Deborah Rosen, aunt Bea Fowler, and a host of friends, co-workers and professional colleagues. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 9 a.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. at King of David Memorial Garden, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family intends to establish a foundation in Mr. Klehman's honor.
