CYRIL W. SERNAK
On Tuesday, April 23, 2013, Cyril W. Sernak, of Damascus, MD, died peacefully in his sleep at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. Born in Weatherly, PA, July 4, 1925, he was the son to the late Ethel Vasco and Stephen Sernak. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hermine; daughters, Diane Christen of Gaithersburg, MD and Judith LeFebvre of Damascus, MD; sister, Benedicta Talkowski of Hazleton, PA; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Cyril served in WWII
as a technician and received a special commendation from General MacArthur. He graduated from Penn State University
in 1950, earning a B.S. degree in Chemistry. He worked as a chemist for a patent attorney in New York City. Then, Cyril moved to Washington, DC, wherein 1958 he started his own business in publishing, creating The Trademark Register of the US., an intellectual property volume published annually. Maintaining a family business for 45 years, he is listed in Who's Who of the East and is a scholarship sponsor with The Pennsylvania State University.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, April 28 at Molesworth-Williams P.A. Funeral, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Monday April 29 at St. Paul's Catholic Church. 9250 Damascus Road, Damascus, MD. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Maryland.
