Of St. Joseph, Michigan, passed away on August 2, 2014 from metastatic breast cancer
after living with the disease for over six years, at the age of 34.
Darcie met her husband, Mark Vugrinovich, in 1998 at the University of Michigan
and they were married in St. Joseph, MI on September 9, 2006. She graduated from the University of Michigan, in 2002, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature. Darcie pursued graduate studies in Creative Writing (Fiction) at George Mason University and most recently worked in the accreditation department at the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Darcie enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, reading and practicing yoga at Flow Yoga Center. She was an active member of several breast cancer organizations, including the Young Survival Coalition.
Darcie is survived by her husband, Mark Vugrinovich of Arlington, Virginia; her parents, Diana (Machurick) Schmaltz and David Schmaltz of St. Joseph, MI; her sister, Dawn (Schmaltz) Hopkins of Frederick, MD; and her niece and nephew, Micaela and Aiden Hopkins.
Celebration of life services will be held at a later date.
