Dr. David Allen Valerio, 75, of Ocean Isle Beach, died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Duke University Medical Center.
He was born May 23, 1937 in Norway, MI.
Dr. Valerio graduated in 1961 from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps at Ft. Detrick, Frederick, MD.
He retired from Covance Laboratories after a 40 year career in Life Sciences.
He was a Diplomate for the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine.
Surviving are his companion of 35 years, Gwen Fitzgerald, of Ocean Isle Beach; two daughters, Lesley Rowland, of Brinklow, MD, and Gretchen Caines, (Cameron) of Myrtle Beach, SC; two sisters, Marlene Roberts, (Dale), of Muskego, WI, and Patricia Henderickson, (William) of Bessemer, MI; four grandchildren, David Caines, Regan Caines, Morgan Rowland, and Paige Caines; and the mother of his children, Dr. Marion G. Valerio, of Woodlawn, VA; and a half brother, Leonard Mortier, (Donna), of Bessemer, MI.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at
1 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 in Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel.
