General DAVID C. JONES  
 

General David C. Jones, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1978 to 1982, died peacefully, Saturday, August 10, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He died at 92 of Parkinson's Disease.
He was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1921. He served in Korea, Vietnam and Europe and was the Chief of Staff of the Air Force from 1974 to l978. President Jimmy Carter appointed him Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in l978 and again in l980. General Jones set in motion a far-reaching reorganization of the U.S. military command that came to full fruition in 1986 with the passage of the Goldwater-Nichols Department of Defense Reorganization Act. He served under four presidents.
His beloved wife of 67 years, Lois M.
Jones, preceded him in death in 2009.
He is survived by his daughters Susan Coffin of Phoenix, AZ, Kathy Franklin (Terry
O'Connor) of Silver Spring, MD, and his son David C. Jones (Jean Jones), four grandchildren, Kim Carr (Mike Carr) of Phoenix, AZ, Brian Coffin of Las Vegas, NV, and Sara and Connor Jones of Sterling, VA, two great-grandchildren, Hayley and Wyatt Carr of Phoenix, AZ, a sister, Jeanne Brown of Grant's Pass, OR, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Friday,
October 25, 2013, at 3 p.m., at the Old Post Chapel at Ft. Myer, 204 Lee Ave., Ft. Myer, VA, followed by interment at Arlington Cemetery. The Guest Book may be signed at Legacy.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project.
