Of Arlington, Virginia passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Capital Caring Hospice in Arlington. He retired as the Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the Air Force after thirty years of service. Among his many military awards are the Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster and a Bronze Star. Before entering the Air Force, he graduated from the University of Illinois with a BA in English Literature. He also earned a MA in Public Administration from The George Washington University. Following retirement he was the Vice President of Communications for the Aerospace Industries Association for ten years. He was a member of Army Navy Country Club, The National Press Club, and The Military Order of the Carabao. He is survived by his wife, Carol Schillerstrom; son, David A. Schillerstrom (Luanne Lukes); two daughters, Linda C. Schillerstrom (Steven Schechter) and Karen Brownsword (Derek Brownsword); and many family members in Naperville, Illinois. Services will be held with Full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Capital Caring Hospice or the .
