Diane Patricia Ward (aka "Ama Asantewaa") fluttered to this world on November 24, 1951, born to the late Jesse Warfield and William Ward in Washington, DC. She was a spirited child who grew up on R Street NE, making many friends and adventures. She was a social butterfly at McKinley Technical High School as well, graduating in 1970. She went on to study nursing at Howard University in 1970-1972, and studied at Indiana University in 1981-1984- eventually earning her Bachelor in Social Work from the University of the District of Columbia in 1991. She was especially proud of earning her Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.
She took flight on February 19, 2014, surrounded by a cocoon of loved ones. Ama/Diane flitted from heart to heart to spread laughter and love throughout her life, and is survived by a large garden of friends and family.
Memorial service will be at Howard University Rankin Chapel, Friday, April 4, 2014. Services will begin at 11 a.m.
