DOE FRANK E. DOE, SR. (Age 93) On April 3, 2014 Frank Doe of Fairfax County went peacefully to "sing with the angels" due to complications of pneumonia and ongoing heart problems. Born in Rochester, NY, he attended the University of Rochester and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan. He earned graduate degrees from Harvard Business School and the University of Maryland. He lived in Philadelphia, Arlington, and McLean as he and his wife, Nellie, raised four sons. Frank served as a Navy LT and gunnery officer in the South Pacific then managed demobilization after the victory in WW II. He then did production planning at a GE factory and taught business courses to new GI Bill college students at Temple University. Frank became an employee of CIA in 1949 working issues related to military industry, missile exchange modeling, science and technology, and the "race to the moon." Retiring in 1970, he developed real estate in northern Virginia and traveled extensively. Throughout his life, Frank was active in sports including track [sprints and long jump], baseball, softball, swimming, rope climb, weightlifting, tennis, and golf. As an adult, he was heavily involved in the Arlington Civic Association, Washington Barbell Club for youth, the establishment of two community pools in the Northern Virginia Swimming League, Boy Scouts, McLean Boys Club, Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Common Cause, YWCA exercise programs for the disabled, and Senior Olympics. After wife Nellie's death in 1989, Frank married a former neighbor from Arlington, Florence Backus. After her death in 1997, he married Ruby Bell of Arlington in 1999. They moved to Greenspring Village in Springfield in 2000 and she passed away in 2007. Frank moved to The Virginian in 2011. Frank's surviving family members include Ernest and Gail Doe of Newport Beach, CA, Frank, Jr. and wife Donna Shelton of Vienna, VA, Thomas and Marie Doe of Purcellville, VA, Randall Doe of Houston, TX, three grandsons, two granddaughters, and six great grandchildren. A brief memorial service will be held in the chapel of The Virginian, 9229 Arlington Blvd. on April 14 at 9 a.m., followed by a casual reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 1125 Savile Lane, McLean, VA 22101 in honor of Frank E.
