GÉRARD L. LaROCHE (Age 93)  

On October 6, 2013 at Hospice of the Chesapeake in Harwood, MD. Dear husband for 65 years of Joyce Latchem LaRoche; father of Marianne LaRoche, Jerome LaRoche and David LaRoche. Also survived by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Gérard was a World War II veteran of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge who received M.A. degrees from both Boston College and Harvard University. For many years, he was a linguistics expert and translator at The National Security Agency, and also taught French or linguistics at Boston College, Tufts University, Catholic University and others. He was also a gifted sketch artist, and his work is in the collections of Harvard, the Imperial War Museum in London and many others. He was also a violinist, furniture maker and choral director. A viewing is scheduled for Friday, October 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. and funeral Saturday, October 12 at 10 a.m. both at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Cheverly, MD. Interment will be at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD on Saturday, October 12 at
12 noon.
