Lt. Col., USAF (Ret.)  

Harold "Hal" Lockwood, 93, of Clifton, Virginia, died peacefully at home on Monday, July 29, 2013. Born November 26, 1919, in La Grande, Oregon, he was the son of George Edwin and Marie Lockwood. He received aeronautical engineering degrees from the University of Washington and Ohio State University. Harold retired from the Air Force following a long and enjoyable career during which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Rita Eileen Lockwood, his grandson, LCpl. Daniel Ryan Bennett, his brother, Robert and sister, Georgeanne. Beloved father and grandfather, he is survived by his daughter, Veronica and her husband, James of Clifton, VA; his grandchildren, David Lockwood Bennett, Colleen Marie Bennett and Laura Eileen Bennett. He cherished his family and was an active supporter at all the many and varied activities in which his grandchildren were involved. Harold loved to travel throughout the world visiting family and meeting new friends.
Friends and relatives may call on Thursday, September 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 6, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, Clifton, Virginia. Interment with Full Military Honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2013.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Fisher House Foundation.
