JEANIE HOUSE DAVIS
Died on July 3, 2014, peacefully while taking a nap. She was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1921. She graduated from nursing school at the University of Minnesota
in 1944, where she met Edwin W. Davis, who had been stationed there for training. She joined the Army Nurse Corps and, at the end of WWII, she was sent to Europe to help with the aftermath of one of the concentration camps in Austria. She and Ed were married in Baltimore in 1946 and after leaving the Army moved to Berkeley, CA where Ed finished his college studies. They lived in and around New York City - a city Jeanie loved - for many years, Jeanie working as a school nurse and later as a guidance counselor and college professor. They lived in northern Virginia and DC for the last 20 years. Ed predeceased her in 2004 and she is survived by her sons, Edwin and Jerry; her daughter, Brooke and five grandchildren. Her granddaughter Sarah said this about her: "She was a fighter, and a miraculous woman. From serving her country to loving each and every one of her family members (no matter how far we were, or busy we were, or what we were getting into)." She will be inurned at the Arlington National Cemetery along with Ed at a future date. Donations to the Goodwin House Foundation 4800 Fillmore Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22311 would be appreciated.
