JIMMY LYN HICKS
Jimmy Lyn Hicks, 76, of Lewisburg, WV, died Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, WV, of complications related to Alzheimer's disease.
Mr. Hicks was born in Houston, Texas, May 25, 1937, the son of W.B. Hicks and Bonnie Craig Hicks. He was a 1955 graduate of W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, and of Northwestern University
where he received BS and MS degrees in journalism.
Mr. Hicks was a reporter
at the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, and a writer and correspondent for Life Magazine in New York and Los Angeles. In the 1960s, he was Life Magazine's Bureau Chief in London, England, and later became an editor at Time-Life Books in Alexandria, VA, where he directed such series as "The Old West," "The Seafarers," "The Epic of Flight" and "Mysteries of the Unknown." He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the Old Stone Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia Preston Hicks of Lewisburg, and five sons: Craig Pinder Hicks of Berkeley, CA: John William James Hicks of Paris, France; Sam Adams Hicks of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and William Preston Hicks and Blair Montgomery Hicks of Alexandria, VA; as well as a brother, Jerry Hicks, of Eugene, OR. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg.
