John Herbert Brown transitioned this life on Saturday, November 2, 2013. He was a native born Washingtonian, born to the late Herbert Wilson Brown and Lillie Belle Brown, growing up in Northeast Washington on Acker Street. He was educated in the DC Public Schools at Cleveland Elementary, Shaw Jr. High and graduating from Dunbar High School in 1939. He later served his country in World War II. Upon his discharge from service, he attended Miner Teachers College (BS) and New York University, (MA), receiving degrees in education. He went on to teach in the DC Public School System and elevated from teaching to teaching instructor to becoming a Principal, before retiring in 1981. His teaching, educational, and administrative career spanned over thirty years. John leaves behind to mourn, his loving sister, Lenora E. Eubanks; eight nieces and nephews; 20 grandnieces and nephews; 24 great-grandnieces and nephews and a host of family, friends and neighbors. Service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 in the chapel of Pope Funeral Home, 5538 Marlboro Pike, Forestville, MD, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. and services at 10 a.m.
