On June 2, 2014, Dr. John H. Vandersall died peacefully at his home in Riderwood Village after a long battle with colon cancer and heart disease. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia, his son Eric and his daughter Karen. His daughter Louisa, his sister Wilma and his parents Clarence and Ida predeceased him. Dr. Vandersall was born on July 20, 1928 on his family farm in Helena, Ohio and received his PhD from The Ohio State University in 1959. He was professor emeritus of Animal Science at the University of Maryland, where he taught and performed research in the field of herd nutrition for 34 years. His interests included gardening and glass paperweights. His wisdom, his wit, his intelligence and his guidance will be sorely missed by his family and those who knew him. A memorial service will be held at Riderwood Town Center, 3140 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904 on Wednesday, June 11 at 2 p.m. Donations in his memory to the Colon Cancer Alliance or the University of Maryland General Scholarship Fund would be appreciated.
