FRANCIS JOSEPHINE T. FRANCIS December 22, 1931 - February 24, 2014 Dignity, integrity, faith and strength are words that describe Josephine Francis - beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Josephine was born in Pune, India on December 22, 1931, to Francina and Anthony Dass and was the fifth of twelve children. She inherited a rich legacy of family, loyalty and compassion. She graduated from Spicer Memorial College with an Associate's degree in Teaching in 1953, and taught for 18 years as an Elementary School teacher. She was privileged to become the Dean of Women at her alma mater. On April 6, 1965, she married Thomas Francis in Mumbai, India. In 1971, Josephine followed her husband to the United States with their family and settled on the east coast. At the age of 50, she pursued her dream to become a nurse and worked until she retired. As an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, she held many positions and served on various local church committees. Her hobbies included knitting/crocheting, quilting, sewing, reading and playing the piano. She has traveled with her husband to over 35 countries. Josephine will be missed by Thomas, her devoted husband of 47 years; her loving children Joycelyn (Vijay), Rita and Lois (Gregory); her wonderful grandchildren, Sangeeta and Sanjay (Samantha) and her precious great-grandson, Gideon; her loyal siblings and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Services will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Baltimore First Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3291 N. Saint John's Lane, Ellicott City, MD 21042. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until Celebration of Life Service at 10 a.m. Interment George Washington Cemetery, 9500 Riggs Road, Adelphi MD 20783. Repast to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Southern Asian Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2001 East Randolph Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904.
